Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate my profile.

Age: 26 (Male, Caucasian, Canadian)
GPA: 2.7 (Have taken 5 quantitative courses since - received A to A+ in each (finance, accounting)
GMAT: 720

Education:
Business (finance/marketing) undergrad from Canadian University. Grades trend upward - 3.5 and 3.8 in last 2 years respectively.

Work Experience:
Full-time: 3 years in business development at one of Forbes Top 10 most innovative tech companies & Businessweeks Top 5 companies
- Promoted roughly once per year
Internships: Financial analyst at one of Canada's largest telecom companies

Extracurriculars:
- VP positions in University Commerce association during undergrad
- Ran 3 large university events
- Teaching Assistant (3 different economics classes (Micro, Macro, Sports)
- I led a trip of 15 to Nicaragua to build houses with Habitat for Humanity raising over $30,000 to support our efforts
- I have been actively involved as a mentor within the Big Brothers organization
- Current leader of all volunteering initiatives at my work --> I oversee and help plan all charity and volunteering work our office takes part in
- Yearly participant in the Run to End Women's Cancer's

Plan: Get an MBA in finance and leverage my skills (biz dev, finance) to gain employment at top consulting firm (tech sector)

Target Schools: Tuck, Darden, Johnson, Booth, Ross, Kellogg

Tuck is actually a big customer of the company I work for... does that help? (hahaha)

To what extent will a 2.7GPA hurt my chances applying to these schools & what else can I do to minimize the negative impact on my application?

Thank you very much!

Hi!

Overall your profile looks great - the two negatives being: a) your low GPA and b) lack of strong extracurriculars post-college. It's great that you run your company's volunteer/philanthropic efforts and that you run in a cancer fundraising race each year, but it would be great if you had some consistent outside of work leadership activities (captain a soccer team, have a seat on a nonprofit board, etc.).

Your target programs make sense... it's hard to say how much they'll weight your low GPA. The upward trend and the alternative transcript coupled with the strong GPA should be enough to alleviate their fears, though. The only thing I'd say you might consider is adding one 'back-up' safety school in case the GPA ends up mattering more than we'd like.

Hope this helps!
