Good sire,
thanks for dropping us a line.
You have a really good basis, and coming from IIT is very good too, as the strongest B-schools in the country recruit IIT grads.

But let me cut to the chase: don't apply in 2014. All the schools will have the same thought as I do "Reapply when you have 3-4 years of experience." It's just not enough experience unless you have some unbelievably strong experience as you were younger (sometimes younger guys who have been running a business since high school or something), but otherwise, the schools will all expect you to do your time, and I fear that you will be just harming your chances if you apply too early.

Dear Sir,
I want to make a career switch into consulting and I am afraid that if I am to stay in this field for a few years more. I will be tagged as a manufacturing or project management guy and I would loose my chances in getting a consulting job in the future.

You don't have to worry about that. PLENTY of people make the move into consulting (that's WHY they do an MBA).

But you CAN do two things in the meanwhile:
1. Try and move to some sort of consulting business now (if you can)
2. Dow hat you can to gather experience in your current position and industry that would lead you towards consulting - leading outside engagements, teams, doing technical consulting, more business analysis, etc.

And keep your goal in mind with every career choice you make, and in one and a half years, you will be ripe to make that move.

Dear Sir,
Would it not be ideal if I were to stay in manufacturing for another year and then try to tell the adcom that I am interested in Core(which is false) to increase my chances to get in. Then after that I can try for consulting once I am in an MBA school

That's also an option, and it could be a good one depending upon what happens between now and then, but also I think that moving into consulting could be a reasonable career change
