Question about recommendations

Hi,

I have one more question. I found that most schools require two recommendations to be submitted on-line.Most schools suggest that one of these recommendations comes from a direct supervisor. ( Your recommender should provide specific observations and examples of your leadership, teamwork, analytical skills, and general likeability.) In my case I have been managing my own organization and the only one who does probably supervise me is my father , so how do I go about the recommendations ?

How about getting in touch with one of your professors from your grad/undergrad days? If its been a few years since you graduated, you could probably send them an email reminding them about taking their course or being involved in a project with other students and how he/she rated your performance.

Or if you are part of a non-profit organization and do volunteer work, you could get the President of the organization to write you a recommendation letter if he/she is willing to do so.

Hi Lisa,

I have been looking through a lot of the Business Schools Webpages but I have not yet been able to understand the difference between the different MBA programs offered.

Could you guide me as to which of the following would be most useful to me (I am 24 and plan to start my MBA at the age of 25) and why:

1) 2 year Full-Time MBA
2) Part-Time MBA
3) 1 year accelerated MBA
4) Executive MBA

I always thought a full time MBA was better than a part time one ? Is this true ?
Secondly, What is the difference between the accelerated MBA and the regular MBA in terms of job perspectives after MBA.

:D I guess since Lisa has been the one answering most of the questions here you assumed I was her..

Anyway, question for the moderator, is the general public allowed to answer questions/give suggestion in this thread or are employees of Stacy Blackman MBA Admissions Consulting the only ones allowed to share their thoughts. I sure don't want to do something against the policy of these forums.

Dear mbaprocrastinator: The general public is always welcome to add their knowledge/perspective to any discussion thread.

Dear asmanta: I answered your second question on the different types of MBA programs on a separate thread. Please try not to post the same questions more than once and allow for a couple of days to get an answer. I do my best to get on the forum once a day.

As for the recommenders question, you cannot ask family/friends, and I am not a big proponent of professors writing recommendations. If you are close to a former professor and kept up with him/her since graduating, that could be an option. However, most schools want an evaluation of you in a professional setting as MBA programs are professional programs. Perhaps there are some clients, customers or vendors you work with closely that you could ask? I also support mbaprocrastinator's suggestion of someone from a community organization or nonprofit that you work with as a possibility.

Yes, you're free to express your opinions & post a messege if you think you can add some value to the the thread of such forums ("Ask ..... forum") . After all it's a public forum.

But we, as general members should realise that the thread starter usually expects answers from consultant, a represetative of co. We should not mislead them & should mention in our post that we are not one of those who represent the firm (Stacy Blackman co. for this matter).

You should make out from the title of this sub-forum ;) Dont worry you haven't done anything against forums policy.
