Jon,
I wanted to ask you an admissions question. I am a graduating senior at a top ten national public university. I am taking the GMAT/studying for the GMAT this semester while my workload isn't too much. I am going to graduate summa cum Laude (3.8 GPA) with a BS in Business Administration. I will be starting in June with IBM GBS Consulting as Strategy & Transformation Consultant. I am an Eagle Scout, and I've always been active in serving my community. After graduation, I plan to actively participating in a few charitable and Church organizations. To be honest, I don't want the GMAT to linger over my head. I just want to take it a few times and give myself the opportunity to use the time (when I'm not working 60-80 hours per week as a consultant) to make a difference in an organization that serves my community. Today, I scored a 640 on the GMAT after getting a 650 and 680 on the GMAT prep exams. I'm a little dissapointed. But, I wanted to ask for your advice when it comes to getting into schools such as Emory, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, UNC, and Texas for MBA in a few years. I don't want to go to Harvard or Wharton, but it isn't worth it for me to leave a good consulting job to go to an MBA program that wouldn't substantially improve my opportunities. Based on my background, what do you think I would feasibly need on the GMAT for the schools I mentioned? Is a 640 for emory, UNC, texas, vanderbilt, and notre dame too much of a stretch (when factoring in the rest of my profile)? I already scheduled to take the exam again because I felt like I screwed up the timing because I was nervous (and a little put off because i took the exam at 3:30 in the afternoon) more than anything else. Im going to continue to work hard this month to inprove my score. Any advice or analysis would be really appreciated.
