Hi,

Possible long-term consequences of the “greenhouse effect,” the gradual warming of the Earth’s climate, may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level.

A. may include melting the polar ice caps and a rising sea level
B. may include the melting of polar ice caps and the rising sea level
C. may include polar ice caps that are melting and sea levels that are rising
D. include melting the polar ice caps and sea levels that are rising
E. include melting of the polar ice caps and a rise in sea level

OA E

For the above, I wanted to know what is wrong with B.

Usage of both "possible & may" is redundant here.
any one will suffice here.
since we have to use possible here, hence eliminate A B n C.

D - awkward construction.

hence IMO E.

Thanks!

But is "melting of the polar ice caps" parallel with "a rise in sea level", if yes can you pls explain why so.

IMO, "melting of the polar ice caps" is parallel to "rising of the sea level" OR " a rise in sea level" but not "the rising sea level".
Both have to be Noun phrases.

IMO E.

B is wrong coz melting is used as verb and rising as adjective so not parallel
