So you got a 690. What did you do?

Just got a 690 on my third attempt, and while I am pretty pleased I was wondering how everyone else out there did in admissions with their scores. Top schools anyone?

The key here is what achievements you have in these two years. If you have performed well above your peer group, you'll do just fine with a 690.

The GMAT is important, but only to an extent to where you can show the adcom you're capable of handling the rigors of b-school.

If you have demonstrated outstanding leadership and achievement in your career, and can convey this well in your essays, your GMAT only has to be "good enough" (which I believe 690 is).

If your profile is average and mundane, a 750 won't be enough to set you apart from the pack and get you admitted.

The advice above is sound. Make sure you stand out. Also, don't make excuses for areas in which you lack - describe what you learned from these experiences.
