SC help ..

by jihoonshim » Fri Jul 04, 2008 7:22 am
one more inquiry.

Q) In the 1980's the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970's.
(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than

OA is C.. but I think B is more accurate expression.

plz give me the tips about this Q and also the usage of the "What".

I have known the word "what"is adequate when I don't know what they decribe someting or etc..

Thanks.~~

Firstly, i'd request you not to post answer when you post a question here. It helps in creating a healthy debate before answer gets disclosed. However, C is better than B because 'twice as fast as it was in' sounds redundant and awkward. rate was twice.. but not twice as fast as.. also C is clear. Hope i make sense.. :)

As far as usage of what in this question goes: it just helps to give answer to rate in 1970s.
