I'm an international student (Canadian citizen) looking to apply to US schools (Cornell, UCLA). I've heard from a couple of students that many employment opportunities from US companies are not available to non-US students. How prevalent is this? Is it really that common?
i.e. if I'm a Canadian, looking to switch careers from finance to marketing (for example), having worked/done my undergrad in Toronto, and going to Cornell or UCLA for my MBA, is it going to be really tough for me to find summer placements and full-time employment offers post-grad? Are a lot of placements not offered to international students like myself?
In that case, would I be better off just going to a top school in Canada, working here for a few years, and then transitioning over to the US with a few more years of post-MBA experience? It's just that with a US-level tuition, it wouldn't make much sense to come back to Canada where salaries are lower and extend the length of my payback period by quite a large margin.
Thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
