Hopefully "Unique" Profile Evaluation

by pscher31 » Mon Dec 31, 2012 5:45 am
23, male, graduated with a degree in International Business with Minors in Asian Studies and Mandarin Chinese in 2011. I went to a small liberal arts school with a GPA of 3.4. I am conversational in Chinese (and now a language called Rukiga (see below for explanation)). While in college I started a consulting firm for small-business owners, and fell in love with strategic consulting. Since graduation I worked as an Operations Analyst for Citigroup for about 6 months and then an opportunity came about in international development and I decided to take a different path.
So, I am currently a US Peace Corps Volunteer living in rural Uganda working in Mircofinance, with no power/water until 2014! Help! Just kidding. But, do you think my service will make me a more competitive/unique applicant?

GMAT:650 (GMATPrep1)

Haven't really started studying. Starting in 2013, I'll be going for it. Planning on taking the GMAT in April or May.

I want to get into consulting after receiving my MBA and would like to target schools that have strong consulting backgrounds.

Any help with target schools would be greatly appreciated.

Possible targets:
Northwestern
Yale
Duke
UVA

Thanks!

Patrick

You seem to be in pretty good shape. Peace Corps looks very very good on your resume. You will need to add one to three more years experience though to make your application relevant. What can I say besides that? Good luck on the GMAT??! :) Of course.

It's bit early for an evaluation, but do think about 1. what you can do to take more leadership than you currently have 2. visiting the schools you are interested in sometime in the coming years. 3. Do you what you can to bring yourself as close to your post-MBA goals as possible before you even apply.

Hope this helps!!!
