On the surface of Jupiter's moon Europa, water remains frozen, but the gravitational force of Jupiter and its other moons cause contractions that may generate so much heat that it would melt ice below Europa's surface.

A). moons cause contractions that may generate so much heat that it would melt
B). moons cause contractions, with enough heat generated for melting
C). moons causes contractions that may generate enough heat to melt
D). moons, causing contractions, may generate so much heat to melt
E). moons, which causes contractions, may generate enough heat for melting

According to me, the faulty and the lookout verb is CAUSE. Now, what can CAUSE contractions that can generate heat? Is it water, moons, Jupiter, Gravitational Force or the surface of Jupiter?
Only GRAVITATIONAL FORCE can cause contractions and heat. So GRAVITATIONAL FORCE is the subject and we'll agree the verb CAUSE with GRAVITATIONAL FORCE.

*this is how I choose C. Let me know whether my choice is correct or not.

Thanks Aman. Now, this sentence looks easier to understand. My understanding was saying that both the gravitational force and the other moons cause contraction, but now it is clear. Here emphasis is on the meaning, and i completely got myself lost.

Answer is certainly C
