Executive MBA chances with low GMAT Score

by shankez » Wed Dec 19, 2012 3:37 pm
Hi There,

I took the GMAT today and scored a low score of 350 pending IR and AWA scores. I have been preparing for 4 months now with all the official study material from MBA.com but clearly it din't help. I must admit that Maths has never been my strongest subject and I find answering both the verbal and quant very difficult under times conditions. I could re-take but not sure if I could make any significant difference like even get to 500 ;-)

I would like to know what my chances are with an EMBA program. I have heard that they tend to look at the candidate's profile more closely than test scores and academic credentials.

I have two degrees in IT, one of which is a Masters and have 7 years of international experience at a well known Global IT corporate. I also have an entrepreneurial initiative with a small startup looking to develop and expand and feel an MBA would be most beneficial with both education and networking.

Please share some thoughts...

Frankly, your only shot at an MBA is going to be with something like a GEMBA or EMBA program, and one that does not require the GMAT. You will need 2-3 more years work experience, and need to wow them with your achievements and leadership experience, but you could try for an EMBA program once you have these credentials and potentially skirt the GMAT problem. Most EMBA programs require 8-10 years experience or more with significant leadership. Best of luck!
