Though today morning only I have started my preparation for SC from Kaplan workbook but I would like to make an attempt to this question. Its a pure attempt without seeing the answer.

I am just a noob in SC, so please wait for some expert's comment.

B) change the meaning of given sentence, it does not tell about the rate of expansion. i.e. how fast or slow. (In actual sentence we can see that its mention FAST)

C) The process of expansion is still going on. So, the sentence must be in continuous present form rather simple present tense. So we can eliminate this option.

D) Same reason as I have stated for B.

Now from the choice A and E, I feel choice A bit ambiguous to me or can say a bit difficult to understand the actual meaning of sentence.

However, if plug choice E, then is very clear as compare to choice A.

So I have chosen (E).

I have a hard time to understand this structure: about + clause. I thought a clause can not follow the word "about".

Can anyone help to elaborate this grammar? Thanks.

Received a PM asking me to respond. I can't address the above problem in detail because no source is given; is you want to discuss this problem, please post the source (author) of the problem.

In general, a "clause" is something that includes a conjugated verb. A "phrase" is something that does not include a conjugated verb. Either can follow the word "about" - so perhaps the problem is simply that you thought you couldn't have a clause after the word "about." You can. If you have further questions about that, let me know.
