My understanding was :

vw=v^2
v^2-vw=0
v(v-w)=0

hence v can be either 0 or w.

Then why Statement 1 is sufficient to decide whether v=0 or not?

The question says if v and w are different integers!
Which means v is not equal to w.
So the only possible value of v is 0.

Just to elaborate on what anshul265 said...

If V=0, we can assume that, since w is anything except 0, V^2 will always be equal to 0 because 0^2 is the same as zero, regardless of the value of w since any number * 0 is always 0.

Does that makes sense

sukrant26 - I think your approach is more logical.

just because v and w are different integers, v doesn't have to be 0. v can be 1 and w 3.

any more thoughts?
