MGMAT 5th edition vs. 4th

I bought MGMAT 4th edition books a few months back, now there's a 5th edition available.
What are the changes in the books?

I know that the actual test has changed and MGMAT has a new book named "Fifth Ed. - Integrated Reasoning & Essay" but besides that what has changed in the 8 books(5Q+3V)?

I can guess that the practice part would refer to "Official guide 13th edition" instead of 12th.

Is there something added or changed in the "teaching/learning"! part?

Do i have/need to read the material from the new edition or the 4th edition would suffice?

Would MGMAT release a question guide that could connect the 4th edition to the OG 13th?

Hello mehrabounr,

While we did recently update our materials to correspond with the new Official Guide 13th Edition, most of the changes across the guides were minimal - updating page numbers, fixing typos, etc. The only guide that did see some substantial changes and improvements in the instruction is the Critical Reasoning guide.

As you mentioned, we did release a new guide, Integrated Reasoning & Essay, which tackles the first two sections of the exam.

To recap, the 4th Edition materials are still relevant and useful, but you may want to obtain the new 9th guide.

I too had the same question. Specifically regarding the difference between the MGMAT 4th and 5th guide of the Number Properties GMAT Strategy Guide. Is there any real difference or are they virtually the same?

The 9th book in the 5th editions series. (review the first post and questions raised).
The 9th book is about the new part, IR.

If you already have the 4th edition guides, you don't need to run out and upgrade to the 5th edition since many of the updates are minor. You may, however, want to check out the CR guide (heavily upgraded) and the brand new IR & Essay guide.

I recently went t a book store and found that the 5th Ed. of SC guide has almost twice the number of pages as compared to the 4th Ed.

Should i pick it up or will my 4th Ed guide sufice?

Hey,

We made some changes to SC but nothing too extensive--definitely nothing as extensive as the changes to CR. From what I've seen and heard from our instructors, I think you'll be fine with your 4th Ed SC guide.

I have carefully read through both editions of the SC book and it's not difficult to notice a slew of changes. To name a few (not a comprehensive list but just what pops out of my head):
1. Chapter 2: de-emphasize CONCISION (with a discussion on the weight of CONCISION, showing that it's just a "preference")
2. Pronoun: de-emphasize PRONOUN AMBIGUITY. This section changes a lot, even with a sentence previously considered "suspect" but now considered "correct". Delete some previous "rules" (including the notion of "too close").
3. Chapters on MODIFIERS and VERB FORMS: I notice some minor changes that better clarify the concepts or better explain the sample sentences.
4. Miscellaneous issues that I can think of: no longer treat "such as vs. like" as a hardline rule, in light of official publications.

In summary, I would say the SC book has considerable level of changes that conform to the trend of the test.

For the RC book, I think the changes are almost unnoticeable. (I acknowledge that I did not read word-by-word for both editions of the RC book as I did for the SC)

For the "brand-new" CR book, it's great! worth checking out.

what about the Algebra Strategy Guide, 5th Edition, i have notice that there is many changes between this one and the 4th edition starting with the name ( it was The Equations, Inequalities, and VICs Guide 4th edition) and I've opened an online sample from the 5th edition e-book and noticed a lot of changed in the first chapter, i don't know about the rest of the book, have anyone notice another changes? or is there anything changed in the exam regard the Algebra?? can i study from the 4th edition in should i get the new Algebra book??

I have also learnt the math part from the 4th edition- unfortunatlly I wasn't aware of the fact that there was a 5th edition. For the verbal part,I used the 5th edition books.

So, my question is the following: which major parts have been changed in the math guides?
I have noticed that there are fewer exercises at the end of most chapters in the 5th edition guides than in the 4th edition guides. Why is it so?
Should I review from the 4the edition guides, from which I have studied, or should I try to quickly reread the new guides and do the exercises?

I would be grateful for a useful advice. Unfortunately I have only a little time left. thanks

There is not much of a difference in the quant strategy guides...As mentioned by earlier posters, the biggest change is in the CR book which has been significantly beefed up. The rest of the material is quite similar ( updated for the OG 13) ...
