Quant/Verbal overall score/percentile weighting

by jsl » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:21 am
Hiya,

Most of us know that the Quant score and the Verbal score are somehow combined which gives an overall score and percentile. We also know that more Verbal questions are asked on the test than Quant questions (41 to 37 respectively).

However, I have heard that the overall score and percentile ranking is weighted slightly more toward the verbal score. Thus improving your verbal percentile will raise your overall score in comparison to making the same percentile improvement in your quant score.

Does anyknow know whether or not this is true?

Dear jsl,

I have never heard that verbal is weighted higher than quant in terms of the total score. In broad terms, the scoring and percentiles are based on complex statistical formulas incorporating test results from a moving 3-year period. Perhaps one of the GMAT instructors out there have more information?

Regards,
Lisa
