G-day approaching Pls help!!

by dextar » Sun Jun 01, 2008 9:22 pm
Hi all

After a consistent effort,I touched 700 in the Princeton review as well as GMAT Prep 1 test last week. I thought that I was doing ok. SO I took my date on 25th June. However, this weekened I took GMAt Prep 2 and too my dismay , my score was only 610(This one I did with AWA in timed mode)!!!

I don't know what happened to me in verbal in that test
(Got only 27 as compared to 40 earlier). Now I'm really worried. When I retrospected I found , I did 6 questions wrong in first 10 questions in verbal. That really lowered my score.

Pls tell me how should I concentrate better as my g-day is approaching. Should I concentrate my energy in revision or should I do ahead with 1000 sc series. I already had done OG,Manhattan SC,Kaplan Premier and Kaplan 800. I think material wise I'm ok and it makes sense for me to revise. But this weekend 's score of 610 has really jolted me!! :(

look over what you missed in verbal.

Was it careless mistakes? => be more careful on the test

Was it a stamina issue? => practice your stamina a few more times with the full test (retake gmatprep if needed to practice)

Was it a nerve issue? => search this forum, theres this one post with all these tips to help :) I don't remember where though

Was it a time issue? => be more mindful of time

Was it a material issue? if so, what?
was it mostly SC? => see if you can find particular topics (like verb tense/modifiers/etc thats causing problems) review mgmat SC book
was it mostly CR? => read through the CR frameworks offered by the prep companies

etc.

figuring out what went wrong is the first step to figuring out what you should do going forward, and what will help you concentrate.
I beat the GMAT! 760 (Q49/V44)

Hi thanks for ur reply

It was a mixture of careless mistake, stamina issue(first time I did the test with AWA and so felt quite drained out even in the maths section), nerves yes(whenever I think I have to do well I fail miserably in verbal, whenver I think first 10 questions will change my score in verbal, I get lost.)

I'm ok with the timings. Finished comfortably in maths and verbal.

Sometimes I become too circumspect about findings errors in SC. May be I should sit back and realize that I'm thinking too much there.May be I should stop expecting first question as SC. It may be anything a CR , a RC, who knows.

There is no problems in the basics as I think I'm fine with them. May be I wil go ahead and revise again.

Hey Dextar,

I had the same problem when I take the GMATprep test. One week I made it all the way up to 590 and then I dropped down to 470. I find that a lot of it is due to lack of focus and distractions. The rest of it is probably just due to burn out because I take the GMATprep exams at least twice a week and I think I might be pushing myself too hard.

Try to clear your head and only think about the GMAT when you take the practice tests. That's what I've done during the last 3 practice test and I haven't seen a score of 470 since.

Hope this helps!!
