Letter of Recommendation Problem

by mstaed » Tue Nov 13, 2012 7:20 am
Hello All,

I am preparing to apply to a few MBA programs--some local to where I live and work in St. Louis and several others that would require me to resign from my current job and relocate. How can I ask my current supervisor to write and send a rec. letter on my behalf to a school on the East Coast when I live and work in the midwest? Anybody have any tips for how to get a good letter of recommendation without risking losing my job when my boss finds out I am thinking about going to school 1,000 miles away?

Thanks

Aha! Tough call buddy!
Well first: if you think your boss wouldn't like to find out: DON'T tell him! It's totally okay from a Bschool point of view to choose an alternate recommender, rather than risking your job.

so first think about whether he is the right choice... and if he is, well then, you'll just have to work on him a bit...
