36. Several senior officials spoke to the press on condition that they not be named in the story.
(A) that they not be named
(B) that their names will not be used
(C) that their names are not used
(D) of not being named
(E) they will not be named

confused btw A and B...

i think the intended meaning of the sentence is to indicate that senior officials did not want the press to name them as far as the source of the story is concerned.

hence IMO A.

Simple way of not choosing B is...the tense: "spoke" vs. "will" in choice B. Mayby "would" is better fit here.

Anyway, "condition" requires "be named" like choice A.
