GMAT Prep - Test 1

by durgesh79 » Sun Jun 15, 2008 1:40 am
Hello all,

First of all, I'd like to thank all of you for this great place. I've been browsing these forums for more than a month now i've learnt a lot. Some of the posts are very encouraging.

Something about me.
Indian / Male / 29 year.
Currently in a Non IT job in an MNC.
background in Quants : Fair (Thanks to Engineering background)
background in Verbals : Poor (If X is the numbers of books (other than academics) i've read in my life, then X < 10  )

Planned test date : 19th Aug 2008.

Today I gave my first GMAT Prep Test 1. I dint write AWAs .

The score : 750 (Q 50 / V 41)

Quants :
There were 5 mistakes, 4 were careless errors. Finished the section with 4 minutes to go. One important thing. I was already familiar with atleast 4-5 questions due to earlier reading of forums. So i dont know if its a good idea to browse through GMATprep questions before actually taking tests. You learn a lot doing it but this may lead to a GMATprep score which is not a true reflection of your abilities. any comments.

Verbals:
11 mistakes. RC - 2 and SC - 9. So i know my weakest area. I think the main reason for SC mistakes is that I'm still trying to solve the question by the way it sounds. I'm yet to develop a logical pattern of solving SC question. Will appreciate inputs. Finished the section with 8 minutes to go.

That's it for now, time to start analysis.

PS 1 : i took a Redbull between the sections and I think it helped.

Thanks Eric,

I do need to learn SCs. The problem is that SC is the area i'm least interested or should i say i dont actully enjoy solving SC problems, unlike CR.

I had the same problem with RC, but your advice of reading it with an interest to learn from the package really helped.

Princeton review test 1

by durgesh79 » Sat Jun 21, 2008 4:15 am
Today i gave Princeton review test 1.... I'm not sure how good/bad or easy/tough these test are ... i just gave it becuase i baught the book and these online tests are available with the book.....

I managed 700 (Q50 / V37)

Quants : 5 mistakes, 3 careless errors. Finished the section with 11 minutes to go

Verbals : i made only 8 mistakes, CR 3, SC 5 and none in RC. Finished the section with 14 minutes to go....

I'm confused about the verbal score ... its showing a 37 ... in the GMAT PREP i gave last week there were 11 mistakes (SC 9, RC 2) and i got a 41.

I understand that the difficulty level of question could be different and i'm comparing two totally different tests ... but the result was same in Quants (5 mistakes on both test and score 50)

Anyway ... I need some advise to develope some interest in SC ..... i avoid doing SC problems .... i havent made a single post in SC forums ... i dont even visit the SC forums.... one of the reasons i'm finishing the tests before time is that i dont spend enough time on SC questions..... i just read them, see which option sounde better and move on ......
