Hi,

I got a 710 on the gmat ( Q50 and V36 ) !!...

However I would like to know whether I have to retake the gmat even though I know that 710 is a good score.

First, my verbal scores on the gmat prep practice software were 41 and 39. I was expecting a verbal score close to 40, but I got 36 on the gmat. Now is Q50 and V36 a good split up ? And I was very "fatigued" during the test. Got a tough RC passage unfortunately.. and was tired during the verbal section . I could have got 730 if my verbal score were close to 40.

But my question is this

1. Is there a difference between a person who gets 710 and a person who gets 730 or 740 ( with regards to admission )

2. Also I need to know whether there is a balance between my Q50 and V36 scores

Considering the above, do I need to retake the gmat ?

You are just fine with this score. You are in the 79th percentile for verbal and most top schools want a balance of 80 and 80 (or higher) for the two sections. Even though you are a bit below, this is negligible. Spend your time preparing a quality application.

Also I would like to know whether there is a difference between 710 and 730 ? (with regards to admission)
..because I am sure I could have got 730...but I got tensed because of the anxiety... did not sleep well before the test day... If I write again, all these things will not happen again... So should I consider writing again ?

My non-expert reply is: probably not. There's so much else to evaluate in an application that 20 extra points isn't going to make or break you - epecially if you're talking about a 92% and a 96% score.

I can't imagine an adcom evaluating an applicant and saying "We think this person is a really good fit for our school, but we'd like him/her a lot better if that 710 was a 730."
