Initial Profile Evaluation - 720 (Q48, V41)

Hi,

I would greatly appreciate some insight on my profile. I recently retook the GMAT and scored 720 Q48 V41. Overall, I'm very happy with the score, except for the 78% percentile in quant. I'm aiming for the top 10 and I'm wondering if the sub 80th percentile quant score (or overall score, for that matter) will hurt me.

I've only been out of college for 1 year now, but I'd like to get a general sense of where I'm headed and if I'm on the right track.

Undergraduate: Cornell University
Area of study: Undergraduate business
GPA: 3.9+ (Magna Cum Laude)
Work Experience: Top 20 consulting firm

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your post.

I don't believe your GMAT score will hurt your application. With a very strong undergraduate GPA, the admissions committee will see that you can handle the quantitative aspects of the program and your overall score will be in the line with the school's admitted class.

You do appear 'on track' for a strong business school application. There are a few ways to improve your candidacy over the next 1-2 years:
-Demonstrated success at work - promotions and compensation increases are the strongest indicators. Also, developing project management and people management skills and accomplishments. Ways to informally develop these skills as well is through leading training sessions, recruiting activities, and mentoring new employees.
-Extracurricular involvement - leadership positions or other consistent involvement. Ideally linked with the extracurricular activities you were involved with during college.
-Research and refine your career goals
-Research schools. I recommend reading our blog (blog.clearadmit.com) when you have some free time in the coming years to learn more about the programs and the process.

Hi Heidi,

Thanks for your response. I just received my official report--I received a 5 on the integrated reasoning section, which is the 52nd percentile.

I understand that currently the integrated reasoning section does not have much weight in the application process; however, do you believe that this score will hurt my chances when I decide to apply to my target schools (top 10) ~3 years from now?
