I feel D is ans here.

In choice B though "being" is avoided, the usege of " because it is genetically engineered doesn't make it" looks not appropriate to me.

Any better explanation....

It should be D.

Option B)'...because it is genetically engineered does not make a......'

this option would have been correct if a plant comes immdly after 'because it is genetically engineered' i.e 'because it is genetically engineered a plant.........' because then 'it' would have a proper reference.

What is the official answer

If we move 'a plan' after engineered, the sentence will read

'simply because it is genetically engineered a plant does not make any more likey to become an invasive weed...'

The original meaning of the sentence is lost.
