Resume Job Titles

by rhunter » Tue Aug 28, 2012 12:18 pm
Hi All,

I just noticed this in the employment history section of the HBS application:

"It is strongly recommended that you confirm your title, starting and ending salaries, and dates of employment with your Human Resources office (or its equivalent) before completing this section. The MBA Admissions Board reserves the right to withdraw an offer of admission already made if any discrepancy is found."

In the year before I left my last job I was a business development analyst full time, but I did not have a title change from my engineering role before that. I separate these two as different titles on my resume because it is confusing otherwise (and my manager would agree with the change), but from an HR file perspective I was still a Development Engineer at my time of departure. Is this discrepancy going to cause problems?

It should not have any impact, but maybe get a letter from your manager confirming this just in case you have any issues.

Yeah man, you should be fine. As long as what you write is true you don't need to worry so much about the technicalities of things.
