Below listed is a correct sentence according to SC Grail and please clarify about the usage of was and is in the same sentence and being parallel

The Illusionist,a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston, was first published in 1995
by Sinclair Stevenson and is considered one of her best works.

Break the sentence into two parts:

"a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston" modifies- The Illusionist... Its the novel which "was" published...

The illusionist "is" considered one of her best works....

Remove the fluff - remove the appositive clause - "a novel by Irish author Jennifer Johnston". The sentence becomes clear.

I think the source of confusion is that there are 2 verbs and one of them is in present tense and the other is in present tense. Can these 2 verbs be made parallel in a sentence structure?
