Shipping clerk

by sam2304 » Sat May 12, 2012 9:49 pm
Shipping Clerk: The five specially ordered shipments sent out last week were sent out on Thursday. Last week, all of the shipments that were sent out on Friday consisted entirely of building supplies, and the shipping department then closed for the weekend. Four shipments were sent to Truax Construction last week, only three of which consisted of building supplies.

If the shipping clerk's statements are true, which of the following must also be true?

A. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was specially ordered.
B. At least one of last week's specially ordered shipments did not consist of building supplies.
C. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction was not sent out on Thursday of last week.
D. At least one of the shipments that were sent out on Friday of last week was sent to Truax Construction.
E. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was sent out before Friday.

Please explain your choices. OA later.

Thursday -> 5 specially ordered shipments.
Friday -> Only Building Supplies

4 shipments were sent to Traux Construction. Given that 3 of them consisted of building supplies.

A. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was specially ordered.
--> We don't know for sure. It could have been anything other than Building Supplies.
B. At least one of last week's specially ordered shipments did not consist of building supplies.
--> True since it clearly says "only three of which consisted of building supplies"
C. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction was not sent out on Thursday of last week.
--> Unless it's specially ordered, we can't say for sure.
D. At least one of the shipments that were sent out on Friday of last week was sent to Truax Construction.
--> Not sure. Building supplies could have been shipped on any other day as well. Need more data!
E. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was sent out before Friday.
--> Not sure.

IMO: B

OA: E

B. At least one of last week's specially ordered shipments did not consist of building supplies.
--> This cannot be true. We know 3 of the shipments contain building supplies but no info about the 4th one. It is given that 4 SM were sent last week. We don't know any information on what is sent from monday to wednesday and we do not know what the specially ordered shipments consist of. No information is given that one of the non building supply shipment was sent on thursday or one among the specially ordered one. So we cannot deduce this

C. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction was not sent out on Thursday of last week.
--> Unless it's specially ordered, we can't say for sure. - I second this. I was confused over this one and E.

E. At least one of the shipments sent to Truax Construction last week was sent out before Friday.
--> This is sure one, because we know 3 consisted of building supplies and the chances are all three are sent on friday or one/two sent before friday. We don't know the 4th one so it can be specially ordered or some other supply sent from monday through thursday - altogether atleast one was sent out before friday.

+1 E

Based on the fact that only building suplies were sent on Friday, and considering that the company received a shipment that not contained building supplies, we can only be sure that this shipment was not sent on Friday.

i think you can rest assure with option E. out of 4 shipments recieved to truax 1 was not bulding material shipment. saturday sunday were closed. on friday only building shipment left, so when did 1 extra non building shipment leave? do you have any day apart mon,tue,wed or thu? that means atleast one left before friday...
cheers...
