Gap after job

I am having 6 years of experience in production(Aerospace) and i am quitting the job now and riting the GMAT.Will it affect me to have a gap in between joining the course and appearing for the exam?Which good B-schools i can apply if i get score around 650?

As long as you do something with your timeoff you will be just fine. As far as schools, that really depends on the rest of your profile. Try sifting through business weeks rankings list to get an idea of GMAT ranges.

Normally, I wouldn't recommend quitting a job to study for the GMAT because an unexplained gap would be viewed negatively.

GMAT is one factor in the evaluation process so more information would be needed to provide a rough guide as to your MBA admissions chances.

Agree. GMAT is probably not an exam which requires months and months of full time study. I have rarely seen anyone quitting their jobs for studying for this exam. If you have a good alibi to give to adcom then it is a different reason, otherwise you should not let a gap come into your resume.

Yeah dude, quitting your job to do the GMAT doesn't seem like a wise choice, as first of all, almost all candidates do the GMAT while working, so for the AdCom it doesn't seem like a great excuse, and second, it puts you in the very unenviable position of coming unemployed. Which doesn't make things "impossible" don't get me wrong, but better to avoid, if you can help it.

I agree with my colleagues about not quitting due to your gmat. But if you have already quit (which it sounds like you may have) or you got let go after 6 years, then I would suggest exploring another explanation vs the gmat.

A solid admissions consultant can help you come up with a better alternative after he or she knows what is really going on.

And if I am mistaken, and you really are about to quit for the gmat, don't!!

Hi Prashant,

According to us, B schools may not take the break positively. It presents a case that you need to leave your job to get a decent score on GMAT which is not the case with most applicants.

Also, it can be seen the other way round... no job and hence you started thinking about MBA.

Get yourself engaged into some freelancer consultant etc kind of role to show continuity.
