Hello,

I intend to begin my application process to schools over the next few weeks and need input on where I have a realistic shot of admittance. I graduated from Florida International University in 2009 with a 3.72 GPA and an International Business degree. While in college, I received a 4 year baseball scholarship and was the treasurer for the Student Athletic committee. Upon graduation I moved to California and worked in marketing and sales for a large wine company. I received 2 promotions within the first 2 years before accepting a management position for a large spirits company.

I took the GMAT for the 3rd time over the weekend and received the below score:

GMAT: 660 overall
-44 Quant
-36 Verbal

I will be 26 at matriculation and have interest in attending the following schools:

-UCLA FEMBA
-USC FEMBA
-Haas FEMBA
-Cornell
-NYU FEMBA
-Tuck
-Georgetown

I will have strong letters of recommendation and intend to work with an admission consultant on my applications. Can you please let me know my admission chances to the listed schools? I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for your post. Your GMAT score is likely in the range for most of these programs. It may be just under the average for some programs. You don't mention your GPA, but if you did well in a challenging major with quantitative courses, it can balance that out. It sounds like you have some good examples from your career progression. You will want to clearly articulate your career goals to the admissions committee. You will want to demonstrate you current skills and experiences that are relevant to this path and have your recommenders do so as well. Given you will have just around 3 years of work experience, you will want to show your maturity and that you are ready to take on an MBA program. You seem to have been very involved in your undergrad experience. Admissions committees like to know about your community service and extracurriculars from the past 3 years, so be sure to include those in your application as well.

Hello Susan,

Thank you for the response and the application suggestions. Regarding my undergrad GPA, I received a 3.72 and graduated with a degree in international business, My quant courses in college consisted of the typical business quant (statistics, business calc, accounting, finance, etc.) with a few additional international finance courses. Should I register for any additional courses prior to applying? I am really hoping to make a strong run at UCLA FEMBA and Georgetown full time, so please let me know if you recommend any specific courses.

As for community service, I have not worked with one specific organization for an extended period of time, but rather a lot of individual charity events. Most of my free time outside of work has been spent training and competing as a triathlete. I am an active member of a local triathlon team and lead local training sessions for members. Do you feel that the triathlon club participation would seem substantial enough for administration boards, or should I look into additional community work prior to applying? I know Georgetown puts an emphasis on community involvement, so I do not want to seem underwhelming compared to other applicants. I am hoping to execute a very strong application to override a lower GMAT score.
