If integer y is greater than integer x, is |x + y| > 6?

y = -3
x = -4

Statement 1: y = -3
Hence, x < -3
-----> (x + y) < [(-3) + (-3)] = -6
Therefore, |x + y| > 6

Sufficient

Statement 1: x = -4
Hence, y > -4
-----> (x + y) > [(-4) + (-4)] = -8
Consider the following two cases,
  • 1. y = -1 --> |x + y| = 5 < 6
    2. y = -3 --> |x + y| = 7 > 6
Not sufficient

The correct answer is A.
