Thought I am not an expert, here are my thoughts
each as subjects is always plural
e.g each of the shirts is large in size
We can not use plural verb 'are' because we have shirts. since subject is each verb is singular always

If each is followed by subject and not a subject, the verb depends on subject and not which
Regions each are beautiful
--Each has not impact on verb

The verb after "each of" is sometimes plural only in the INFORMAL style. So definitely NOT in the GMAT.
In the GMAT "each of" is always followed by a singular verb.
e.g. Each of them has problems.
Each of us sees the world differently.
