Should I go for the GMAT now or later?

I/m planning to apply for MBA next year or may be even later as my current financial situation is not very sound and have only two years of corporate experience. Currently I have sufficient time to study for the GMAT so want to utilize it for preparation. But I'm confused weather I should go for the test now or later when I get ready for the admission. Will this early taking GMAT affect my admission process? Or what may be other cases related to my problem?

It is entirely up to you if you want to take GMAT now and get done with it, or take it next year.GMAT scores are valid for five years, so it makes sense to finish this part of the application process now and apply a year later when you are ready for it with more experience under your belt and better financial condition.

You have not mentioned which schools you are planning to apply to after an year or so. If you plan to target US Schools, you should wait until next year to take your GMAT as most US schools require their candidates to have 4-5 years of work experience.

Thank You for such detailed reply. Actually I am planning to do 1yr MBA programme. One college I'm sure to appy is ISB Hyderabad others I have to decide on. Please help me to find such programmes and their basic requirements.

Take the test as early as you can, with the caveat that you should be as ready as possible.

Take your time and see where you shake out on the GMAT, as this will of course influence the category of schools you can target. Also, given you only have two years of work experience, you are not in a rush, and can apply in the next 2-4 years no problem. By then your financial situation may also improve, though the payback on an MBA can be quite quick when you get a strong job.

If your target school is ISB, then also you will need 2-3 more years of work experience because the average work experience of ISB admits is five years.

As for the GMAT, you may take it this year because you have enough time for preparation.

Regarding selection of schools, you will need to do research to find out which schools best match your interests.
