Apply now or later?

by Dumbgunji » Sat Jan 27, 2007 9:48 am
Hey Stacy,

I often read the helpful advice you offer to others and was wondering if you can advise me.

I graduated from a local City college known for business in NYC with a 3.36 GPA in May 2005. Right out of college I got a position in the analyst program of a large investment bank. But it was not investment Banking, it was operations. Two weeks ago, I took the GMATs and scored a 750 (Q49, v42, asa 5.5).

I was thinking of applying to Columbia for Class of 2009 as almost a test, to see if I could do it. Otherwise apply to other colleges Class of 2010. Do you think this is a good idea? What schools would be good for me to apply to??

Thank you for your advice, and everyone please feel free to tell me waht you think =), the more the merrier.

It's difficult to know what your chances are. In my experience, Columbia has been good about communicating with applicants, providing guidnce during the application process and providing feedback to reapplicants. So this leads me to believe that you may benefit from applying now. If you are not admitted you should apply early decision or (depending on your goals) for the January program next year and be in touch with the adcomm for feedback and direction.
