Hi, there. I'm happy to help with these. :)

1) On a certain map, Washington DC and Montreal are 4 inches apart. If Washington DC and Montreal are actually 500 miles apart, and the map is drawn to scale, then one inch represents how many miles on the map?

miles/inches = miles/inches

500/4 = x/1

125 = x ====> Answer = A

2) A store sold three times as many pounds of peanut butter as pounds of bananas. If the store sold 250 pounds of bananas, and one jar of peanut butter weighs four ounces, then how many jars of peanut butter did the store sell? (16 ounces = 1 pound)

(lbs of PB)/(lbs of bananas) = 3

(lbs of PB)/(250) = 3

lbs of PB = 750 lbs

1 lb = 16 ounces = 4*(4 ounces) = 4 jars

If 1 lb = 4 jars, then 750 lbs is 4*750 = 3000 jars. ====> Answer = D

Does all that make sense?

Just for practice, here's another ratio question:
