When shoud I write the GMAT?

by tanvi.uk » Sat May 31, 2008 2:47 am
Hi

I am studying Computer Science at a prestigious London university. I am currently in my first year of graduation. I am extremely keen to pursue a Masters degree in Business Administration right after I graduate in 2010. So, should I sit for the GMAT in 2009 or 2010? Also, how long are the GMAT scores valid?

I understand that most Business schools prefer candidates with work experience. In that case, how feasible is it, in terms of probability of selection, to sit the GMAT right after graduation when a candidate has no work experience, as in my case, given that the candidate has had an exceptional academic record all throughout his/her life?

I would be grateful if you could provide answers to my queries.

Dear tanvi.uk,

GMAT scores are good for 5 years, so it is best to take it around the time your complete your bachelor's degree if you decide to take it close to your undergraduate studies. Yes, most schools prefer you work for at least two years before applying to a MBA program. If you take the test close to the time of your graduation, then you would be able to work up to 4 years to use that score. Of course, you can always retake the GMAT to improve your score at a later date and that test will be good for 5 years from the test date.

Good luck,
Lisa
