Hi All,

A collection of 38 poems by Phillis Wheatley, a slave, was published in the 1770's, the first book by a Black woman and it was only the second published by an American woman.

Image

Error Analysis:
Here we have a parallel list. The entities in this list are:
a. the first book by a Black woman
b. it was only the second published by an American woman.
This list is not parallel because the first entity is just a long phrase and the second entity is a clause. Since the first entity falls in the non-underlined portion of the sentence, we need the second entity in phrase, similar to the first entity.

POE:

Choice A: it was only the second published by an American woman: Incorrect for the reason stated above.

Choice B: it was only the second that an American woman published: Incorrect. Now we have two clauses here.

Choice C: the second one only published by an American woman: Incorrect. Placement of "only" is not correct.

Choice D: the second one only that an American woman published: Incorrect. This choice again has the parallelism error.

Choice E: only the second published by an American woman: Correct.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
