Waitlist Decision

Dear John,

Thanks in advance for responding to my query here.

I was waitlisted by Giozueta in their early decision round, and I was asked to send some supplemental information. Later, I received a feedback from the adcom informing me that my application is solid and there is nothing that needs to be done on my part to make it stronger - It;s just that it's a very competitive applicant group this year.

Also, I was told that my application will be evaluated with applicants in the subsequent rounds. Two rounds have already elapsed since I applied to Goizueta and my decision has not changed from waitlist. I now have an admit from SP Jain Dubai, Singapore and Sydney.

Do you suggest writing to them and asking them to release my decision because I have an admit already from some other school?

Well it depends. Is it your top choice? I wouldn't write them "Hey I got in somewhere else, let me know what's up." Because it's too much like you want to "blackmail" them into giving you an accept. Instead I would write them a full essay including your advancement since your application, (promotions, new achievements, etc.) and any new stuff you have to tell them. In the essay include the fact that you were accepted elsewhere. And if Goizueta is your first choice emphasize further just how much you like the school and that it it is your first choice.

Yes, Goizueta is my first choice. I have now also received an admit from Simon School of Business with 20000$ in scholarship per year. I have two questions now:

1. I am due to get promoted as an Assistant Manager on 1st March, but it has not been released yet. Can I talk about this in the essay?
2. Can I tell them that I have an offer from two different schools, which I am required to accept with in a stipulated?
3. Most importantly, can I request them to take me off the waitlist and release my decision as I have to decide now?
4. I had already sent some additional information to them in the past. Can I ask a colleague/Supervisor to send additional recommendation letter?

To answer your Qs:
1. Yep, let them know!
2. Yes, but gently... ask them in a VERY polite manner if they might not mind releasing a decision, emphasizing that you would far prefer to go there.
3. You can. it can be risky, but you can. (well not THAT risky, because you have two admits in the bag)
4. You can as well. The best is if your additional supervisor is adding something NEW... but even if you have contacted them before, you can contact them once again for this purpose.

Naaaaah, there's hope yet. Have you been in contact with them? sent them additional materials?
