Young Military Dad Profile Help!

by IT2Business » Wed Apr 25, 2012 6:33 am
Stacy,

My name is Drew Rose and I am currently in the process of narrowing down B-Schools and studying for my first GMAT.

Starting- Spring 2013

Program- Online Global MBA

Life- 25yo with 2 young children and a stay at home wife

Experience- Member of Tennessee National Guard 4years, Currently an Information Technology Technical Trainer for a Forbes List Top 100 Company, all said and done 5 years experience in IT (with 2 years of management experience) and 7 years full time working. *spent 1 year working in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor

Undergraduate- 3.8gpa Bachelors of Science in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland University College *graduating Summer 2012*, (Even though I have been working full time in the field of my undergrad prior to graduation, will this hurt me in my application process? I completed my undergrad through 3 different schools, with more than half of my credits coming from UMUC)

Professional Certifications- Comptia A+, Network+, Security+, GIAC's GCIA, Cisco's CCNA, ISC2's CISSP (This may not mean anything to you, but the CISSP and CCNA are the gold standard certifications to work as a network security engineer and were extremely challenging certifications)

Financial Situation- Company will pay for 70% and Military will pay for the rest

Goals- To gain an MBA that will help me grow quickly through the business side of my company utilizing my IT background and skills.

Schools- I am only interested in online programs that have mandatory in person sessions, whether local to the school or abroad. As of now the schools on my list include, Thunderbird, Indiana, IE Business School, University of Florida, Arizona State University, Penn State and Duke.

GMAT- I believe this will be the down point of my application and as of now have a realistic goal of breaking 600, with 600 probably being my final score.

Positives- Quick growth in career that will be recognized in my resume, professional certifications, international experience, high GPA, life experiences, Military background, interview (something I am very confident about) and my motivation.

Negatives- Multiple undergrad schools, Low GMAT, Undergrad graduation date,

My main question is if I do in fact score a 600 on the GMAT will my profile stand out for the schools I have listed and be offered admission?

Thank you very much for your time in helping me out with my conquest for an MBA!!

Drew
