If 5 and 7 are the lengths of two sides of a triangle. which of the following could be the length of the third side?

I. 2

II. 5

III. 7


I only

III only

I and II only

II and III only

I, II and III

[spoiler]Since the sum of the two sides cannot be greater than the 3rd side or the 3rd cannot be smaller than the difference of the two sides we get 2 < x < 12. Therefore the answer is D II and III only.[/spoiler]

B, III only, triangle is isosceles.

Triangle cannont be equalateral as an equalateral triangle has all equal sides. It says two sides are 5 and 7 at most it can be an isoceles

I'm sure other people would like to try answering. Just like others who post questions with OA no different. As you can see above someone does not know so this benefits them. Why ask?

In this question its clearly visible that this triangle is an isosceles triangle and in isosceles triangle two sides have the same measurement,So the third option is correct.

You are wrong. There is nothing that can prove that this triangle is isosceles. How can you prove that? If it is isosceles; are the sides 5,5,7? Or 7,7,5? Just as i cannot prove to you that this triangle's measurements are 5,6,7 you cannot prove to me that it is isosceles. I can tell you that this triangle "might" have measurements as 5,10,7; but i cannot prove that it definitely has those measurements to you either.

There are an infinite number of possible triangles with the above criteria and the range for the unknown side is (2,12) as explained in the OA. Since only II and III fall in this range, the answer is D.
