Defense attorneyshave ocassionally argued that their clients' misconduct stemmed from a reaction to something ingested, but in attributing criminal or deliquent behavior to some food allergy, the perpetrators are in effect told that they are not responsible for their actions.

A. in attributing criminal or delinquent behavior to some food allergy
criminals do not do the attributing, the lawyers do it. There is a misplaced modifier here.

B. if criminal or delinquent behavior is attributed to an allergy to some food

C.in attributing behavior tht is criminal or deliquent toan allergy to some food

D. if some food allergy is attributed as the cause of criminal or delinquent behavior

E. in attributing a food allergy as the cause of criminal or delinquent behavior

Please explain why B is correct

It's usually easier (and a better strategy) to explain why the other answers are NOT correct.

First, we can't start that phrase with "In attributing...". This modifier issue would make it sound as if the perpetrators are the ones who are attributing, when it should be the defense attorneys. So, this elminates ACE.

Now, between B and D, we've got an idiom issue. The correct idiom is "attribute(d) to". So, D is incorrect because it uses "attribute(d) as."

Hope this helps!
