Advice

by BTGUser » Tue Mar 13, 2012 10:11 am
I am a little lost and was wondering if you could advice me on what to do.

I took GMAT thrice.

Sep 2009 590[q49,v23,awa4],
* Used OG & MGMAT[SC/CR/RC]
* During exam:
* Verbal - I was unsure about many answers in Verbal. I sped through 10 questions in last 15 mins.
* Quantitative - I was confident about my answers in quant.
* I took around 10 CATS before the exam from MGMAT, GMATPrep, Princeton, Kaplan

Oct 2011 620[q49,v26,awa5] and
* Used OG & MGMAT[SC/CR/RC]
* During exam:
* Verbal - I was unsure about many answers in Verbal. I managed time better.
* Quantitative - I was confident about my answers in quant. I had to rush through a few q in the end.
* I managed time efficiently and was on time for verbal and quant.
* I took around 18 CATS before the exam from MGMAT, GMATPrep, Princeton, Kaplan

Mar 2012 560[q45,v23,xxxx]. 560
* Used OG & MGMAT[SC], GmatPill[RC], Critial Reasoning Bible[CR]
* I did not practice quant much because I was always getting 49 even in my practice tests.
* During exam:
* Verbal: I was more confident about my answers in verbal but sped through about 12 questions in the last 15 mins. Went blind on 3rd RC that showed up in last 30 mins.
* Quantitative: I felt quant was really really difficult. I just could not believe the questions I was getting. I still remember a few questions that were beyond what i have seen in any GMATPrep.
* I took 3 CATS before the exam from GMATPrep
* I did not have enough rest the night before.
* I ran out of thoughts on Analysis of Issue section.
* I did my Analysis of argument better than the Analysis of issue section.

It seems like you are not gaining much with your studies as all of your scores are around the same level. Quant you appear solid, but looks like you can't slack on preparation because it cost you on your final exam.

I think the clearest thing to work on is your timing in verbal. Get an assessment of the different question types in verbal and see where you are failing. Focus on improving that skill set.

It is difficult to give concrete advice without seeing your work, but it appears you need to find a way to eliminate some wrong answers more quickly in verbal..
