Confused and need advice

by feeling_alive » Mon Feb 27, 2012 8:57 pm
Hi everyone, I have been studying for the GMAT for approximately 1.5 months now and I scored 590 (33q 39v) on the GMATprep. On the Manhattan GMAT practice tests I got an average of around 600 with similar quanta to verbal breakdown. Finally, when I wrote the GMAT today I got a score of 500 (32q 27v). I would ideally want to write this test a month from now and am hoping for a 600+. On the quanta I realized I made several mistakes on easy questions because of test anxiety. Has anyone experienced a similar situation and if so how did they deal with it, does anyone have any advice to break that 600 mark on the real test? Thanks in advance.

Did you take the mock tests with strict official conditions i.e with essays and 8 minute breaks ? Your GMATPrep score and actual score have a wide gap. Whichever section you feel comfortable either quant/verbal you can work on it to improve the overall score. Once you get comfortable with the topics you won't lose time and anxiety will reduce. Only sound preparation will help you get rid of anxiety.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

I took the GMATprep test in ideal conditions, essays and breaks included. For me during my 8 minute essay writing break of the real exam I did not know that the Exam invigilator had to actually log me in, I was waiting by my computer as the timer went during the break. I thought the exam would automatically restart when the break was over but that was not the case. So I ended up losing like a minute on the quant section which made me rush and make silly mistakes I think.
