Suggestion for ESSAY TOPIC for ISB-YLP Programme

The essay topic for the first round of ISB-YLP Application Process is:
Tell us about two of your most significant accomplishments.

I have a choice to choose between
1.How I dealt with my health problems and how I completed my Semester when I was on the verge of drooping the Semester due to above mentioned health problems.And,how it made me strong and the things I discovered about me and lessons learnt etc..etc..
2.I am from a non-Hindi speaking state.My college is situated in Hindi Speaking State.So,how I realized the importance of the speaking Hindi in my college and how I learnt it eventhough there are people criticizing my Hindi?And,how my Hindi Speaking helped in the later stages.

Are they relevant to the topic?
If yes,which one will be a better essay topic as a significant accomplishment?

Personally would advise u to go for the first one. Add the language aspect in it yes, but not as the only achievement!!

We would advise you to go with more professional accomplishments rather than the ones you have stated.
That will put you in a good light and your essay would be strong.

I will be writing one achievement as an Finance Coordinator of an NGO.I am going to describe the way I brought funds through various means and how I took the NGO to another level etc..
Due to the above mentioned health problems I was not able to do any substantial work till March 2011.So,I don't have any other significant professional achievement/a story to tell the AdCom...:/..even though I am working with a start-up and another NGO now.
You might have missed this part.I am 3rd Year,B.Tech Student...

I would say: look for a professional achievement nonetheless. Maybe you only THINK you don't have one. Why is this so important? Because choosing a personal achievement here tells me: this dude has no great professional achievements!!!! NOT good, as you can imagine. I would dig around for something better.

Put yourself in the shoes of the admissions officer reviewing your application. He/She is looking for evidence that you will bring academic and professional strength to the school (and that you will represent the school well as an alumnus).

Now consider which stories will present you in the most favorable light. Also, keep in mind that some accomplishments can be very finite (e.g. overseeing a specific project), while others can be broader (e.g. overcoming obstacles; a sustained record of success). Specific stories tend to work better on b-school applications, but a broader accomp can be effective, too.

Overcoming a health issue makes for a good story, but what strengths and/or skills does it portray? In other words, based on that story, why will the school want to admit you? The health and language stories are worth mentioning, so you should weave them into your application, but not as stand alone accomplishments.

Is there a second success you can highlight from your NGO experience? Do you have any other leadership experiences from work, school, or outside activities?
