A person's taxable income = total income - some deductions, and one of the deduction is donation. If his donation resulted in a $217 tax decreasing, how much did he donate?
1). the tax rate for the portion of taxable income that is over than 7500 is 28%
2). His taxable income is 7753

Let total income = x and y = deduction

St.(1) x-y>7500 rate is 28%. Nothing mentioned any income. Not sufficient.

St.(2) x-y=7753. Nothing about rate. Not sufficient.

Together, tax = 28% of 7753 = 2200 approx.tax for donation is 217.So proportionate amount with respect to donation can be determined. So total donation can be determined since 2200 relates to 7753, so 217 will relate to the proportion of 217 to 2200 with 7753.
