Bad GMAT Score

by vikassingh03 » Mon Jan 02, 2012 4:15 pm
Hi,

I have been regularly getting the scores from GMAT prep test and MGMAT in the range of 650-680.But When I gave my test on 21st Dec I got 580(Q 44,V-26).I have been completely shattered by it.

I have used the following materials:-

1)MGMAT SC
2)Aristotle SC
3)OG 12
4)OG Verbal
5)GMAT prep questions
6)Kaplan
7)RC99
8)Powerscore CR bible.

I have slept and lived GMAT in these last 2.5 months.I have around 7.5 years of experience in IT industry and around 6 years of US experience.

I know for sure that I am capable of getting 650+.Looks like I studied too much and during the exam I didn't want to think too much on any question and just wanted this exam to get over.

I plan to take retest in April again and needed some fresh material for preparation.

Any help in this regard would be helpful.

Regards,
Vikas

HI Vikas,
I had a very similar experience.
I gave my Gmat in dec 1st week.I too walked and slept Gmat for 2 months.I put in almost 4 hrs on an avg every day. I managed to get on 580 Q44 V 25. I was consistenlty scoring 660 in Mgmat and 800score.I dont know what went wrong. I asked many pple they suggested me that I take a break and start all over again, but asked me not to keep the break too long. Some one also said that pple dont score well ususlly in dec, i am not sure about that because i saw many who for 650+ in dec.
I went through OG 2 times
Kaplan
Mgamt
800score
regards
Melon

GMAT Score:690

It is a fallacy to think that people score less in december. I am also a candidate who was scoring less in the practice tests, but ended up scoring about 80 points more than I have experienced in the actual test.

I think it depends on your mind set on the test date and how well you clearly utilize the time and the breaks as well. It helped me go in with the thought of it is not the end of it(actually I went with idea to repeat at later point of time and this being a trial run) but still scored 690. I did almost run out of time in quant and had about 9 minutes to spare in verbal.

I would strongly suggest you to concentrate on your weak areas. Repeat your errors from OG and get a strategy around parts of verbal that you are weak at.
