Essay and Plagiarism

Hi Everyone,

I know that now a day B-School tests your essay for plagiarism. I understand that everyone has his own story in essay so chances of getting caught in plagiarism should be less. But for NUS, I have been asked 2 essays on general topics - Rampant consumerism and Asia biggest problem.

As I have to do some research on these topic before formulating my words. Of Course I will be taking some reference text from somewhere. Can any one guide me on how to avoid plagiarism for this kind of scenario ?

Forgetting is the greatest weapon against plagiarism. We all assimilate ideas from what we read and see and experience, but thankfully we don't remember everything! (Think, embarrassing moment with Mrs. Hopkins in the third grade... ouch!).
so as long as you are copying you should be fine, and if you are taking big chunks of ideas or statistics or whatever, just give a source: "The Wall street journal writes..."
