Parallelism - Small doubt !!

by sohrabkalra » Sat Dec 10, 2011 7:31 am
Here is an example (Source: manhattan strategy guide):

voters want to elect a president who cares about health care, the environment, and the concerns of ordinary men and women.

My question is about the usage of articles before environment and concerns and their affect on the parallelism between three things

Although these things are logically parallel, when we say these should be grammatically parallel, does that mean the articles before environment and concerns should not be there or they do not have any affect ? can someone explain there role here?

hi,
i don't think you need to care much about the use of acticle in the case of parallelism.
What you need to stress on is, that what is parallel. If we are putting nouns to be parallel,
as in this case; we just need to identify that if all the parallel things are nouns. If they
are verbs/ adjectives etc.
There would not be any answer choice where only "the" is removed and still the subject
can act as noun.
