Hi vaibhavgupta--

Great program! And good that you're starting to explore it now (assuming you're still in school and are looking at where to apply this Spring/Summer).

In general, the European schools (IESE included) are less competitive on the GMAT scores than US schools. The standard 80% range for IESE of 630 to 730 would apply for the YTP as well, though scores do trend higher for these applicants than the general population (since YTP candidates are still in school when they apply and still in "test-taking mode", and thus do better on the exams). As with any strong program, the higher the better, but you don't have to have a stratospheric score to get an offer there. (EssaySnark always likes to see >700 of course!)

I was actually thinking of not applying if i dont get a 700 or plus. Since my CGPA is low as well as the fact that i would face high competition being from India itself.

EssaySnark is always more confident of people's chances if they break the 700 barrier on the GMAT, so that's a good goal. The schools look for more than just test scores though - IESE in particular gets fewer applicants from India than some other European schools - IE too - because they're in Spain which isn't the first choice for many applicants.

If you come in around 680 or so though, don't rule out an application to YTP!!

(We doublechecked on our prior client who was accepted to YTP and he had an amazing GMAT score, yet at the same time, he didn't make it into HBS... so each school does look for different things... FWIW!)

In my experience IESE (as well as a lot of the other non-UK European programs) are more flexible about the GMAT, and less impressed by it than American schools. Even with below a 700 if you can build a good profile and give good stories you can win them over.

yes, but that said with a low cgpa and being a male indian, i would need to have a good gmat score like 700 and + .. isnt it??

Hi Vaibhav

One very important thing is to justify your low GPA. Our experience with IESE suggests that give the adcom members a very valid reason. Suppose you had taken a full time job, or were working day and night on a good project, or were a part of a dynamic NGO which required a lot of time.Actually, they would appreciate your eagerness to work. They like leaders and being independent for your quest is one way to impress as well as show a weakness as a strength.

Find the justification and defend it.

I got through the YTP this year and although my GMAT score was good , I think they are really interested in getting to know you as a person and really finding out how excited you are about the program.
