A question just popped in my mind.

All the placement statistics indicate the placement rate 3 months after graduation. Well!!!
- Why the 3 months?
- Does this mean these students have received job offer on graduation and accepted in this 3 months period?
- If not offered a job on graduation, is this 3 months period need special Visa application?

How are you?

Well that is a reporting guideline for statistical purposes. It is a general convention which is generally agreed to capture an important aspect of placement rates of college.

The example to explain this is It is the percentage of students with offers of employment based on the number of students reporting back to the university and actively looking for work. This means that if there are 100 students in the graduating class, 80 have reported back to the university and 60 of the 80 have job offers, the placement rate is 75%, not 60%. They need to be active job seekers.

Having worked for my college placements, i think i can give an explanation of why college put up this as a stat. I might be wrong, but that is a chance i am willing to take!

While most of your students get job offers while still completing the course, a few of them are still left ( thanks to a higher number of students when compared to the number of offers). In such a scenario, the college undertakes efforts to ensure his placement within lets say 3 months of his degree getting completed. This signifies that he/ she got the job!

Now The college here in this stat is trying to show that even the students who were not selected immediately were given job offers in a relatively decent amount of time! (basically telling you that u will get the job, dont worry! )

Another possible explanation given to me during an interview I had with a Director of Admission was that some people actually put off work and take a vacation after graduation and started looking afterward, hence the 3 months after graduation number will better capture the employment figures than employment number at right at graduation.

I don't know how valid this is since I would probably start working right away to earn $$ instead of spending some more... but that is just me
