Hi, I am a young French Professional, and I request your advice; please find a short description below :
Nationality : French
GMAT/Age : Male, 29 yrs
Undergrad : Graduated from a top 5 French engineering school, completed with a specialized masters in Strategic management and Corporate finance at HEC.
Grad : in the best 20%
GMAT - 710, Q-49, V-38. AWA: 5.5
Work Ex:
I worked 1,5 as a financial analyst in a venture capital fund, where I had to evaluate several business plans until the investment decision among the investment board committee of the fund. (I will be recommended by one of the partner of the company)
Then, I make a career switch in a utility firm for 3 years now. The activity is a sales activity towards large industrial customers based on power and gas supply contracts.
My role is first to build and market offers to customers in collaboration with the sales and the portfolio management team. More precisely, I am responsible for pricing and structuring full supply power offers for large industrial accounts. I have then to evaluate several risks related to the customer offer and propose the best price at the time of the offer. I have become the most senior in my team (4 people), and I work on the highest value and the most complex deals. I also took part in some management project like the creation of a subsidiary abroad, which is a big achievement for me. I train the new intern and recently hired people.
I also manage directly some customers as some of them request me to do so (this is quite unusual as my role is more like sales support).
This career switch will be key to explain in my essays I think.
Work experience diversity: I have always worked in France (not my best point) but either in the fund or in my actual job, I worked with people from Switzerland, spain, Russia, China Belgium and german.
Post MBA goal: My main focus would be to target a m&a position in a big investment bank, in order to meet my long term goal which is to work either in private equity energy related or on to work in energy project finance (I think these fields required experience people before getting into into directly, that experience comes from my first experience in the venture fund). I would also consider a career in a strategy consulting firm, because this is also compatible with my long term goal.
Extracurricular:
Undergrad: my ecs are mainly undergrads, I was responsible for organizing and promoting big events for my school, and I also took the initiative to earn money for the association in organizing outside parties. I also train tens of student to prepare their A levels, and I have regularly do since I have begun to work.
Target Schools (in descending order): LBS, INSEAD (R3), COLUMBIA (R2), NYU (R2).
DO you know if applying in LBS at round 2 or round 3 is of a great matter?
What are my chances? Thank you very much in advance for your answer, your help is greatly appreciated.
