Post MBA goal

by kgkunalgupta » Sat Nov 12, 2011 2:10 pm
Hi

Can I mention my goal after my graduation as joining the same organization I am currently working with? I really like my organization and see my future in it for a very long time. However, there has been no discussion or agreement between me and my employer of an opportunity after MBA. My goal is to get back into the org after my MBA.

Thanks
Kunal

Hi,

Great question! Of course you can state returning to your current company as your goal. You're not implying a contract, but rather you are honestly responding to the prompt. Keep in mind that you will want to be very clear that staying at your current organization without your MBA will not yield the same job. In other words, if the adcom thinks you don't need your MBA to grow into your desired future role, it will be hard to convince them to admit you - so be clear that an MBA is needed (not just tenure) to advance to that opportunity.

Best,

Stacey

Hi,

Thanks Stacey for your reply.

Well, about your point on tenure. I think reaching the position I want to be 'may' be possible in the organization without the MBA. But it is 50-50 chance and second it will take at least 25 years for me to reach there. I know with an MBA I can make it in 10.

Regards,
Kunal

Perfect. I wouldn't necessarily state in your applications that it might be obtainable without the MBA, but rather position it that the MBA is the best path to get there.

Stacey
