Stanford vs. Berkeley EWMBA?

by bbdesign51 » Thu Nov 10, 2011 9:43 am
HI There - I posted here a few weeks ago about my concerns regarding my age (I'll be 29 by start of next fall) and applying to Stanford. Since I just applied to graduate school not even a year ago, I am worried about asking my recommenders to spend a lot of time writing for me again. As such, I'm planning on just applying to one school and crossing my fingers that I can get in.

I'm particularly interested in Social Entrepreneurship and leadership in the education sector. Given my background and interests and age, does it seem that the EWMBA @ Berkeley would be a better fit for me (vs. trying to take a shot at Stanford)? Or does this program seem like quite a long shot also? In addition, will the part-time program provide strong exposure to the things I'm interested in and substantial growth given my past experiences?

I would only be willing to take on the total costs of a 2yr program if it were at a top 3 program.

GMAT: 730
GPA:3.5 @ top 3 undergrad business program
Work experience:
-5 years at fortune 10 company in a finance and strategy leadership program
-1 year starting up an education nonprofit
-currently enrolled at top master's of education program (Harvard)

Hi,

Thanks for your post. If the end goal here is for you to get your MBA at a top program, than I do think you should consider the EWMBA program at Berkeley. By only applying to one program it would be in your best interest to apply to the one with the greatest chance of success. Given your profile the EWMBA program at Berkeley does seem like the best option in terms of success.

Best,

Stacey

Thanks Stacy!

The end goal is to make a career switch/ open up new opportunities. Does an EWMBA at Berkeley enable this? I'm hoping that a program like this has some advantages over other local part-time MBAs.
